Community Medicine, Social Services & Education
PaM's operational arm is involved in creating, assisting and participating in Máncora community projects, adressing needs identified by community members as being the most pressing: access to medical and social services, and a lack of educational opportunities.
The PaM Community Medicine Program works to improve access to health care in Máncora. In partnership with the Peruvian Red Cross, Máncora Branch, PaM has established a community medicine clinic, and PaM volunteers teach First Aid classes in the community. PaM also hosts medical volunteers who work in primary and emergency care, education and prevention programs.
PaM Social Services Programs aim to create social support networks for those community members in Máncora who are most in need of short and long term assistance. Our current focus is projects that address violence against women, social isolation, and womens' self-esteem. Through its Education Programs, PaM works to improve access to education for community members in Máncora, so that they might better take advantage of employment and business opportunities in their community. PaM has established major capacity-building projects in both English and Sexual Health education at I.E. Alberto Pallete school. PaM also coordinates Spanish classes for our international volunteers, so they can become more involved in community life.
